An urgent plea

I want to appeal to my readers, who are in some ways the only friends I have. They have stood by me through thick and thin, so I feel closer to them in many ways than to those I see every day.  I have been going through a bad patch recently. Unexpected expenses. Uneven health, with recurring episodes of illness. The loss of dear friends. Inability to find an artistic community to join, or even someone to have lunch with.

A comedian once said that he felt that the world was a tuxedo and he was a pair of brown shoes.  I can understand that feeling.

So--things have not been going well.  But something new has gotten to me, and I don't know what to do.  I went to the doctor today.  As I was leaving the parking lot, I backed into someone's car.  To make a long story short, the woman whose car I hit insisted on calling the police.

But wait, there's more.  I didn't have my insurance card in the car--which never happens, but it did.   The policeman traced my Delaware license and the motor vehicle people there told him that my license had been suspended.  I think this was a bureaucratic error, but I can't prove it.  Now I don't know what to do.  Should I get a lawyer? In Maryland, or Delaware?  How can I fight this? I don't know.  This is where I need advice.  What should I do?

Please tell me your best thinking about this.  I would appreciate it. I appreciate you.

Miriam, it should be pretty easy to find out if your license was suspended in error, but it will take some time on the phone. And usually the insurance card issue will go away after you prove that you did have insurance. This does sound like a situation where a lawyer could help.

Start a Go Fund Me, I'll contribute to help out.

I wish I knew a lawyer who can help. As a non-driver, I don't know anything about confirming a license and insurance - I guess it's similar to any other kind of document. Call them, and if someone at the lower rungs don't help, ask for a supervisor. Try to remember, how and when did you pay for insurance, then go thru your credit card statements of roughly same time, to find that payment.Set a personal appointment with DMV that issued your license.

Forgive me, but there is something I don't understand. If I remember right, the reason for your selling your house and moving to another state was to be closer to your relatives in case you need help. This current situation would seem like a perfect opportunity for just that, no?

Agree with Paul - open GoFundMe, I'll contribute, too
