Eliot Spitzer explained
The New York Times explains Spitzer. Apparently, all the big kids do it:
“I think biologists could tell you this has something to do with natural selection — the person who acquires power becomes the alpha male,” said Tom Fiedler, who teaches a course in press and politics at Harvard’s Kennedy School....
Politics and sex is an old story, and as Mr. Fiedler and others point out, it simply reinforces the lessons of the aphrodisiac of power taught in Shakespeare.
I thought if you were an alpha male, you got it for free.

Hm. I guess that leaves me out.
I thought you ARE getting it for free, Francis - aren't you married?
Now, now, Tat! The scenario involves hot babes throwing themselves at you, a la Lewinsky.
Didn't Spitzer have any interns in his office?
"I thought if you were an alpha male, you got it for free."
They do. They choose prostitutes because after you pay them they go away.
"I thought you ARE getting it for free, Francis - aren't you married?"
Nobody pays more for sex than married men.
*duffy: nobody? women pay more.
Actually, after a few years, sex becomes rather infrequent for the married, of whichever gender persuasion. Especially when children are involved.
Tat: I respectfully but very strongly disagree.
Dick: "What do I know about sex? I'm a married man." -Tom Clancy
duffy: obviously, you're not a woman, what would you know?
At least Spitzer is more selective than Clinton. His ho is much more attractive than Monica.
Wyatt: Yes, but Bill Clinton paid less--a book of poetry and a few cheap trinkets. Plus, she made house calls.
Miriam, other differences: Monica paid with her career -> Clinton wiggled out of it seemingly unscathed; his family only acquired an aura of saintly martyrs (well, in certain circles). Spitzer's career is ruined and his family's devastated. Ashly the call girl got all kinds of goodies - I hear about the book deal, the Playboy deal, etc etc.
Why the difference, what do you think?
I think Monica has more of a future than Kristen. I cannot imagine Kristen having much of a life after 35. Monica is a dope, but I suspect Kristen is more damaged.
I've read articles like this before. That is, articles that explain/justify/rationalize politicians who have been caught in embarrassing sex-related scandals. They come out every time it happens to a prominent Democrat. They never appear when the exposed politician is a Republican. It really has become tiresome.
