Have you ever noticed that almost all Yiddish words that have made it into common usage (like "gonif")are put-downs? No idea what it means but it's interesting. Where would we be w/o sclep and sclemiel and noodgnik?
I have noticed that. But my grandmother, from whom I learned Yiddish, didn't have much good to say about anyone.
