One for our side

I hope Lynne Stewart rots in hell.  Traitor!

Lynne Stewart is not a "Civil Rights" lawyer. She is the Devil's Advocate. There is a difference.

It is one thing to help those who truly have been disenfranchised from society, to promote equality before the law.

Stewart doesn't do that. Stewart actively breaks the law whenever she feels it will score one for her side. She's not interested in equality before the law, she's interested in sticking it to "the man", and her clients are her method of doing so.

The problem with semantics is that they are half the battle. People have put "Civil Rights Lawyer" in front of Stewart's name for so long that it is now an assumed. "Well, everyone *knows* she's a Civil Rights lawyer, only concerned about helping the oppressed," when in reality nothing is further from the truth.

It's just become "truth" because we allow it to slide.

I won't feel bad if she dies in prison (I'm not advocating her death, but I'm not going to pretend that I'll miss her, either). I do feel bad that she will probably go to her death never understanding what atrocities her activities made possible, and what kind of person she truly is.

You have made a very important point. Language should be used precisely, and Stewart is not a civil rights lawyer. But she's not exactly the devil's advocate either.

n common parlance, a devil's advocate is someone who takes a position he or she does not necessarily agree with for the sake of argument. This process can also be used to test the quality of the original argument and identify weaknesses in its structure.

During the canonization process of the Roman Catholic Church, the Promoter of the Faith (Latin: promotor fidei), popularly known as the Devil's advocate (Latin: advocatus diaboli), is a canon lawyer appointed by Church authorities to argue against the canonization of the candidate.[1] It is his or her job to take a skeptical view of the candidate's character.

She is actually a piece of pond scum and a traitor to her country.

Oh, I understand the common parlance usage of Devil's Advocate. But I couldn't think of anything else to call her that sounded right.

And common parlance aside, I do think she's the attorney for the evil. So I meant Devil's Advocate as strictly interpreted through word usage. I don't think she's playing Devil's Advocate, I think she really is.

It obviously didn't sound the way I thought it would. :)

In any case, she's disgusting. She's evil. She enables evil. I hope that when she dies, as she ascends to judgment, the righteous turn their backs to her.
